Start with the rule message and the action you were trying to take. An unexpected measured result, a missing input, and a configured approval block need different follow-up. Check the measure, included records, dates, target, and action response before changing a rule or a staffing record.

A result is Unknown

Unknown means the information needed to calculate the result is incomplete. It does not mean zero staffing or zero cost. Read the explanation to identify what is missing, such as position fields or financial setup.

Open the related record and check the information for the dates being measured. Enter zero only when zero is the correct value. After correcting a missing input, check the rule again and confirm that the result covers the intended dates.

Staffing is below or above the target

Check which staffing measure the rule uses. Position FTE includes vacant capacity; Assigned FTE depends on assignments. The same workforce can therefore produce different values for these measures.

Review effective dates, position status, assignment FTE, and any relevant allocations, placements, or schedules. Make an authorized change to incorrect information, or revise the proposal if it does not meet the requirement. Run the check again for the full period, including dates on either side of a change.

A cost comparison looks wrong

Confirm whether the rule checks budget capacity cost, staffed budget cost, or calculated compensation. Then check whether the target represents an interval amount or a total for a complete budget period. A yearly rate is not the same as a cost total for a shorter period.

A complete-period rule checks its whole period even when you select narrower dates elsewhere. Use the same dates, included records, and measure for your comparison. Review missing setup before treating a subtotal as complete. Use budget and compensation troubleshooting if the underlying amount is unexpected.

A warning allows one action but approval is blocked

Rules have separate responses for On submission, On approval, and On application. A warning at submission can be followed by a block at approval. Other rules and permissions can also affect the action.

Read the response for the action being attempted. Review the proposal against that requirement and correct it if needed. A saved rule check records an earlier comparison; it does not guarantee permission to complete a later action. Retry the action only after the relevant change and checks are complete.

An improving change is still blocked

Allow with warning if improving requires an existing shortfall or excess to improve without worsening another checked interval. An improvement in one period does not excuse making another period worse. Incomplete information also prevents FTE Tree from establishing that a change improves the result.

Compare the before-and-after values for every applicable interval. Check that the proposal improves at least one affected interval, worsens none, and has the information required for the comparison. If those conditions are not met, revise the proposal or ask the person responsible for the requirement to review it.

The page says Checking requirements

The calculation is still running. Wait for the complete result, then return to the action. This status is different from an unmet requirement or Unknown result. If processing stops, follow the progress page and its supported retry action. See request checks and recovery for a request that cannot continue.

A saved result differs from a new check

Check the source, dates, and check time. A saved rule check keeps the information and rule definitions used for that check. Later changes can produce a different current result without rewriting the earlier comparison.

Compare matching versions and dates. If you need a current answer, complete a new check and label any saved result clearly. Do not alter an earlier rule just to make an old saved comparison match today’s records.

If the result still cannot be explained, contact the person responsible for the rule or FTE Tree support. Include the rule or record link, dates, measure, target, result, and action attempted. Include the message shown, but keep protected employee and pay information within the support process approved by your organization.
