Getting started

Start with one department or a group of positions.

Choose positions that reflect the staffing decisions your team makes. Involve the people who maintain those records and approve changes.

  1. Choose the positions to include.

Identify the approved positions you want to manage, their departments, job codes, full-time equivalent (FTE), and reporting relationships. Keep the approved structure separate from changes still being considered.

    Read the organization setup guide
  2. Give each team the right access.

Decide who maintains positions, who reviews requests, and which departments each person should see. Workforce Planning also lets you control access to labor budget and actual compensation separately.

    Understand security and access
  3. Bring positions and staffing together.

Prepare your position and employee records using the import templates. Check the files for errors before importing them. Assign employees to their positions so you can see staffed and vacant FTE.

Read the import and export guides
  4. Walk through a real decision.

Review a vacancy, submit a proposed position change, follow its approval steps, and check the resulting report. Use that experience to decide what to bring into FTE Tree next.
