FTE Tree runs in your web browser and does not require a separate desktop or mobile app. Use a current supported browser with cookies and JavaScript enabled. Phones and tablets work well for quick tasks, while a desktop or laptop is better suited to setup, imports, reports, and large tables.

Access is tied to your FTE Tree account and organization membership. Each organization has its own web address and may require multi-factor authentication (MFA) or company sign-in. See Organizations and membership and Sign in and use MFA for details.

Browser requirements

To use FTE Tree, you need only a web browser. For best security and user experience, use a current version of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, or Opera. Keep automatic browser updates enabled where possible.

Tasks such as approving a position request can be completed on a mobile device. A desktop or laptop is recommended for setup, imports, reporting, and larger tables.

FTE Tree requires:

  • HTTPS access to FTE Tree.
  • Cookies for sign-in.
  • JavaScript for interactive pages, forms, tables, approvals, search, and reports.
  • Pop-up or new-window permissions when opening the secure billing portal or downloading certain files.

Devices and screen size

FTE Tree works on phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. Use the device that fits the task:

  • Mobile phone: quick approvals, comments, messages, profile changes, and status checks.
  • Tablet: light review, approvals, and use of Home.
  • Desktop or laptop: imports, report exports, report review, setup changes, department review, and large table work.

For long forms, large report exports, and detailed comparison work, a keyboard, pointer, and wider screen reduce errors.

Email and notification requirements

Your organization should allow email from FTE Tree <updates@mail.ftetree.com> so users can receive invitations, sign-in codes, MFA recovery notices, approval assignments and results, billing notices, and service messages.

If users do not receive email, check spam, quarantine, allow-list rules, domain restrictions, and whether the user’s email address is verified and active.

File downloads and uploads

Import source files, blank import templates, attachments, reports, and invoices use your browser’s standard file upload and download tools. Some organizations restrict file downloads through browser, device, or network policy. Ask your IT administrator to allow needed downloads for authorized users.

Uploaded files should be business-related and should not include unnecessary sensitive information. FTE Tree checks uploaded files for safety before making them available to reviewers.

Network and security settings

FTE Tree works over standard HTTPS connections. Corporate networks should allow secure access to FTE Tree, any company sign-in pages your organization uses, and email links sent by FTE Tree.

If your organization requires company sign-in, users must also be able to reach its company sign-in page. Multi-factor authentication from the company sign-in service and FTE Tree are separate. Users entering an organization that requires FTE Tree multi-factor authentication, or changing protected user access, email policy, billing, or organization security settings, still need access to their authenticator app or recovery codes.

Accessibility and browser preferences

FTE Tree uses standard browser controls where practical. Users can use browser zoom, password managers, saved credentials, and accessibility tools supported by their browser and device.

Use the zoom and accessibility settings you need. If a control becomes difficult to reach, try a wider layout when available and contact Support with the page, browser, and setting affected.
