A check answers whether the selected staffing or costs meet the applicable targets for the dates being reviewed. The result can help explain a shortfall, cost excess, or missing information. Saving it keeps that comparison for later review; it does not authorize a future change, which must pass its own current checks.

Open Workforce rules from the main navigation, then select its Check rules tab. Use Rules to browse requirements and Saved results to return to a completed check.

Choose what to check

  1. Choose Approved or Workforce plan under Records to check. Draft and approval-request checks run in their own workflows.
  2. For a workforce plan, choose the workforce plan. Its current completed outcome is used.
  3. Review From and Until. Until is the first day outside the period. Approved starts with today’s date; workforce plan starts with its complete period. A period cost rule checks its whole budget period even when your selected dates overlap only part of it.
  4. Leave Rules blank to check every applicable rule you can view, or select specific rules.
  5. Choose Check rules. Large checks display progress. You can leave the page while work continues. Use Retry check if a failed calculation offers it.

Changing the selected source or dates refreshes the applicable rule choices. If its current outcome is still updating, wait for it to finish before checking it.

Read all the results together

The results table shows each rule’s Status, Requirement, Measured value, and Difference. Beneath each row, review its Submission, Approval, and Application consequences, exact dates, source, target, before value where available, and missing information. Use pagination for additional rows. One rule can have several rows for different dates or compared sources.

Example Status Submission Approval Application
Minimum staffing is met Met Allowed Allowed Allowed
Staffing is below the minimum; submission warns and approval blocks Requirement not met Warning; allowed Blocked Follows the configured application response
Cost is above a cap that blocks every action Requirement not met Blocked Blocked Blocked

These consequences explain the policy recorded with each result. They do not authorize a live request. Approval requests and workforce plan application check their own proposed changes and current requirements before proceeding. Approved baseline rows in a workforce plan or proposed-change comparison show Comparison only for their action consequences. They describe the comparison source and do not decide whether the proposed change can proceed.

Unknown means information is missing or incomplete; read the details before treating it as a staffing shortage. It is distinct from Checking requirements, which means the calculation has not finished. An unknown result with a blocking response prevents that action.

Save the results

After the results finish, open Save or review these results, enter a Result name under Save these results and choose Save results. This saves that exact completed check. It does not calculate again while saving.

Use the Saved results tab to return to it. The record identifies the dates, source, check time, and Plan name when relevant. Later changes do not rewrite it. Start a new check when you need current results.

Use the actions at the top of the saved result to create a report, review a compliance summary, or compare saved results, when your access allows it. A changed policy or different source can make results unsuitable for a direct comparison; review the requirements and dates first.

Compare departments and budgets

Open Check rules from a department summary or Workforce rules. Choose Departments, the source and dates, then select Check rules. Select Budgets only for rules marked Budget. Leave Departments blank for all rules you may view. Changing filters prepares a new comparison; it does not change policy. A workforce plan’s rule comparison checks its current completed outcome.

The difference is the measured amount minus the target. Above or below is interpreted using the condition: below an At most budget is within budget; below an At least staffing target is a shortfall. Review each row’s measure and dates. Do not add overlapping organization and department targets, FTE across periods, or different financial measures.

Improving; warning, allowed means the target remains unmet but the proposed change reduces the excess or shortfall without worsening any checked interval. The same action can still be blocked by another rule. Approved rows in a proposed comparison are reference values; the proposed rows determine its consequences.

Follow targets on a dashboard

Add Rules and budgets to a dashboard to follow named targets and their measured results. Supported staffing and cost summaries also offer All rule targets or Budget targets. These displays use your existing workforce rules; a Budget label does not create another target or change what happens on a request. Follow Check rules to review the same selected rules. See dashboard target comparisons for scope and date details.
