Set up the choices before creating the practice position. Work in the empty practice organization prepared in the previous lesson. If Outpatient Services, Patient Services Coordinator, or Weekdays already exists with a different meaning, stop and ask the administrator which prepared record to use. Do not create a duplicate.

Before you begin

You need Manage departments, Manage job catalog, and Manage position setup. If you are practicing financial classifications, you also need access to the Workforce Planning setup prepared for this organization.

Create the workforce choices

  1. Open Settings, then Departments. Create Outpatient Services under the agreed parent department, effective no later than January 1, 2027.
  2. Open the department and confirm its name, parent, and effective date. A department’s location can affect access and inherited setup.
  3. Open Settings, then Job catalog. Create Patient Services Coordinator in the agreed job group.
  4. Make Patient Services Coordinator available to Outpatient Services from January 1, 2027. Check the department and date before saving.
  5. Open Workforce > Work schedules. Create Weekdays and choose the shift classification your organization uses for ordinary daytime work.
  6. Add any required standard fields or a Work arrangement choice list with On-site, Hybrid, and Remote. Use a choice list when every learner should choose from the same answers.
  7. If your Workforce Planning practice uses department financial classifications, create the agreed account parts and values. For example, use Fund 100 and Cost center 420. Assign the values directly to Outpatient Services or confirm the permitted inherited values.
  8. Review each choice on January 1, 2027. An unavailable choice cannot be selected for new work, so do not make any of these practice choices unavailable yet.

Check your result

Open a new position form without saving it. Outpatient Services, Patient Services Coordinator, and Weekdays should be selectable for January 1, 2027. If a required financial value is part of the practice, it should be present directly or inherited from the parent department.

Why make an old choice unavailable instead of renaming it? Earlier records need to keep their original meaning.
