Before checking a financial calculation, identify which recorded rate supplies its starting amount. A more specific rate can replace a default; the two are not added together.

Before you begin

Finish the Workforce Budgeting first result, including the retained January report and July comparison. Use a separate advanced practice organization with the Evergreen department and schedule choices and 1,950 annual hours per FTE. Keep Avery and the main coordinator unchanged.

Reserve a Practice source coordinator job classification, an approved Practice source position at 1 FTE, and Casey Source with one regular 1 FTE assignment, all in Outpatient Services from January 1, 2028 on Weekdays. Use the first module to create and approve them. Start with no budget rate, employee pay, or adjustments. Shared classification rates require budget management for All departments; employee pay requires its separate financial access.

Compare a shared rate and a position rate

  1. Add an annual $68,000 job-classification budget rate from January 1, 2028 for Practice source coordinator.
  2. Open Practice source position’s calculation for that date. It should select the classification rate and show $68,000.
  3. Add a $70,000 position rate from July 1, 2028.
  4. Compare June 30 with July 1. The selected source changes and the annual budget becomes $70,000. It is not $138,000.
  5. Open the selected rate from the calculation and match its record and effective date, even if two rates happen to have the same amount.

Compare employee pay and an assignment exception

  1. Enter employee-wide $60,000 Annual salary (scaled by FTE) for Casey Source from January 1, 2028, without selecting a single assignment.
  2. Confirm the assignment uses that default and costs $60,000 before adjustments.
  3. Enter a $64,000 annual salary exception for this assignment from July 1, 2028.
  4. Compare June 30 with July 1. The same full-time assignment costs $60,000, then $64,000. The exception replaces the employee default for that assignment.

For an original typing error, use the pay record’s correction action and retain its correct effective date. A real later agreement needs a new dated value. Do not create a duplicate employee to change a pay source.

Review a pay grade separately

With financial setup access, create Practice Coordinator II with an annual range from January 1, 2028: minimum $60,000, midpoint $72,000, maximum $84,000. Select it on Practice source coordinator’s dated information.

Add a later range from July 1: $63,000, $75,000, $87,000. Compare the grade on June 30 and July 1. The range changes, while the saved position and employee rates remain the amounts you entered. Pay-grade guidance does not itself create a budget or salary change.

Check your understanding

For July 1, name the classification default, selected position rate, employee default, assignment exception, and pay-grade range. Explain $70,000 budget, $64,000 cost, and $6,000 difference, with no benefits applied. Retain these examples for diagnosis; use the separately prepared records in the next lesson for part-time and hourly work.
