Report is waiting, failed, or unavailable
Follow a waiting report, recover from an error, and check missing or expired downloads.

Open Reports > Results, choose your report, and read its status and message. It may still be preparing, have failed, have expired, or require access you do not currently have. Follow the matching steps below.
Before you begin
You need the report’s viewing permission for the included information and departments. Downloading CSV or Excel also requires the export permissions for every kind of information included. Changes to your access can prevent opening or downloading a result you could previously use.
See Roles and permissions for access requirements and department coverage.
If the report is queued or running
Queued and its clock mean the report is waiting to start. It starts automatically when processing is available; other background work can also affect the wait. Follow the existing report in Results; submitting the same report repeatedly will not make it start sooner.
If the page says it cannot check report progress, it keeps the last displayed status and retries automatically. The message appears beside the status and changes to Progress updates have resumed after a successful update. A temporary interruption to progress updates does not mean the report failed.
Use Cancel while the report is queued if it is no longer needed. Cancellation is unavailable once preparation has begun. A canceled report has no completed result; submit a new run if you still need it.
Running and its spinner mean preparation has started. Wait for the status to change. If it remains unchanged much longer than your usual reports, contact Support with the report name, its page link, and approximate submission time.
If the report failed
- Open the failed report and read the message.
- Confirm its dates, filters, and report type match the intended review.
- Correct the specific missing information or invalid choice identified by the message, when you have permission.
- For financial or workforce plan reports, wait for the relevant result to become current.
- Choose Run again, review the saved choices, and submit a new run.
- Check the new report in Results. Contact Support if the same failure returns.
Do not invent a rate, assignment, or other business value to make a report finish. Keep the failed report’s details so Support can identify the attempt.
If a completed report has blank amounts
Completed describes preparation. It does not confirm that all required financial information was available. A report can finish with Provisional, Needs setup, or blank amounts.
Read the named setup reason and any excluded-position count. Fix the dated position, annual-hours, budget-rate, employee-pay, or adjustment information in the appropriate area. Wait for the calculation to update, then run a new report. The completed earlier report keeps its original result.
Use Financial reports to find missing budget or pay information, or Understand workforce plan results to check the records included in a workforce plan.
If a download or saved result is unavailable
Confirm that the run completed and that it was created in a downloadable format. An On-screen summary is intended for review in FTE Tree; choose an offered file format on a new run when you need a download.
Check whether you still have both the report’s viewing access and the export permissions for every kind of information included. A download never grants extra information beyond your current access. Ask the person who manages user access to review any missing permission or department coverage.
Review the expiry information shown for the report. Saved report results are subject to retention. If a result has expired or been removed, run it again when current information meets your need. A new run can differ from the expired result because later changes may apply. Contact Support when you need help understanding an unavailable historical result; do not assume it can be restored.

Include the organization, report name, page link, submission time, displayed status, message, dates, and filters. Say whether the problem affects one report or several and whether a new run had the same outcome.
Do not attach a compensation or access-report file unless the support process specifically requests it through an appropriate channel. See Contact FTE Tree.
Optional practice: find out why you cannot open the report
Use prepared practice records for this exercise. Follow its setup instructions before making changes.
- Open the report you requested and read its status.
- If it is waiting or running, follow that same request rather than creating another.
- If it failed, read the message and use the offered recovery action.
- If it expired, run a new report with the dates and information you now need.
- If access changed, ask the administrator to review your permission.
After the report completes, check its date and one expected row. A file appearing in another person’s download list does not give you permission to use it.
If you can open the file but its amounts differ from a page, use Report totals do not match. That is a different problem from an unavailable download.
