Find and resolve an issue
Follow an issue to the information that needs correcting, check the result, and distinguish a fix from a planned later review.

An issue points to something that needs attention, such as an unfilled position or missing pay information. Open the issue before changing a record so you understand the affected dates and the problem FTE Tree found.
Before you begin
For either edition, use instructor-prepared examples outside your original position: a vacant full-time position, a separate position with an incorrectly entered assignment FTE, and, if available, a position with missing position status. Skip an exercise when its prepared example is unavailable. Workforce Planning learners can also use an active assignment with missing pay for the optional financial exercise.
You need permission to view each issue and its records. The person making a correction also needs the relevant employee, position, or financial permission.
Fix a staffing gap
- Open Issues, choose Staffing, and open the prepared issue number.
- Read the position, affected dates, and FTE that is unfilled.
- Open Fix issue, review the listed assignments, and choose Add assignment when the vacancy needs a new assignment.
- For the designated full-time employee, enter an assignment of 1 FTE starting January 1, 2027. Check the employee, position, and dates before saving.
- Return to the position and the issue after the result updates.
The intended result is 1 approved − 1 assigned = 0 vacant FTE from January 1. If the assignment starts February 1, it does not fill a January gap. If you add only 0.5 FTE, the remaining 0.5 FTE vacancy still needs attention.
Correct an existing assignment
Use the separate practice position with 1 approved FTE and one assignment mistakenly entered at 0.5 FTE from January 1, 2027. The instructor’s practice agreement should confirm that the assignment was meant to be 1 FTE from that date.
- Open the staffing issue and review Details. Confirm the position, employee, assignment dates, and the 0.5 FTE gap.
- Open Fix issue and choose Edit assignment for the listed employee.
- Correct the assignment to 1 FTE, retaining its original correct start date. Add the prepared explanation when requested and save.
- Use Back to assignments and confirm that the same assignment now has 1 FTE. Check its employee, position, and original start date, with no additional assignment created.
- After calculations and issue verification finish, confirm 1 approved − 1 assigned = 0 vacant FTE and check the issue’s status.
This exercise corrects an entry error. If the employee’s working arrangement actually changes later, use the supported dated assignment change for that later date. Choose Add assignment when another assignment is needed.
Fix missing information
Use the prepared Position status missing issue in either edition:
- Open Fix issue and choose Add missing Active status.
- Check the approved position start date and the Active status that will be restored. Add the prepared correction note.
- Select Add missing Active status, then reopen the issue and position.
The missing-status issue resolves when the correction is saved, and later approved status changes are kept. Related staffing results can still be updating; check those separately.
Additional practice with missing pay
Workforce Planning only, with employee-pay management access. Open the prepared missing-pay issue and confirm that the active assignment has no pay for the affected dates. Follow its correction link and enter the instructor’s approved practice amount in Compensation. After calculations finish, confirm that an amount appears and the issue is resolved. Missing pay is not a confirmed zero cost. On Details, open the pay record under Resolution. Open Activity history and confirm that the verified correction identifies the same pay entry and effective date.
Position control learners continue to the intentional-vacancy exercise below.
Record an intentional vacancy
Use the separate position that is intentionally unfilled. Open its issue and choose Accept arrangement if you have permission. Record why the vacancy is intentional and confirm.
The staffing numbers stay the same. Accepting the arrangement records a decision; it does not fill the position. Find the decision in Activity history.
On another prepared issue, choose Review later and a future review date. The issue can return on that date if the problem remains. If staffing changes or a resolved problem returns, a new review may be needed.
Check your understanding
Explain the difference between correcting a record, accepting an intentional arrangement, and choosing a later review date. Give the issue number, affected date, and remaining problem if you need help; avoid sending private pay details in an ordinary support message.
