Learn FTE Tree
Take a quick first look or follow the complete training guide with worked examples.
Learn FTE Tree through a quick first look or a series of practical lessons. The quick start helps you recognize positions, employees, requests, and the dates attached to changes. The training guide follows those ideas through worked examples, from creating a position to comparing staffing and costs.
Choose the learning path for your edition, or open an individual lesson for the task you want to practice. Each lesson explains its purpose, what you need before starting, and how to check the result. Read along with the examples or use an organization prepared for training; the exercises change records. Administrators can use the later lessons to prepare shared settings, access, and approvals before a team begins work.

Explore the lessons
Choose your starting point
- Take your first look around
Find one position, see who fills it, understand its dates, and find help. Start here when you are new to FTE Tree.
- Complete training guide
Choose your edition and work through the lessons in order. Each lesson explains what to do and how to check the result.
Part 1: Get comfortable
- Join your organization and find your work
Accept an invitation, sign in, choose the right organization, and use navigation and search to find a position or setting.
- Understand when a change takes effect
Compare the day before and the day a change begins, then learn when to record a new change and when to correct an entry.
- Review Home and the work you can access
Find work that needs attention, adjust filters, and distinguish a missing record from a record you do not have permission to see.
Part 2: Manage positions and people
- Create a full-time position
Create the draft Patient Services Coordinator position, check its details, and prepare it for approval in your practice organization.
- Submit and review a position request
Send your draft for approval, follow each review step, and confirm the approved full-time position on its starting date.
- Add Avery and fill the position
Create Avery’s employee record and full-time assignment, then check that the approved position has no vacancy.
- Change a position and check its history
Move a practice position, record changes on two dates, and learn how corrections and discarded drafts affect its history.
- Pause, restart, or end a position
Practice a temporary suspension and return, review an open-ended pause, and learn what changes when a position ends permanently.
- Understand the organization chart
Find a position in the org chart, inspect who it reports to, and check how an approved reporting change appears on different dates.
Part 3: Understand budgets and employee costs
- Give the position a salary budget
Enter a full-time salary budget, check the amount used for the position, and learn when a shared job-code rate applies.
- Enter Avery's salary
Record a full-time annual salary for Avery, check which assignment uses it, and distinguish recorded pay from calculated employee cost.
- Add estimated benefits
Add a 20% benefits estimate to the position budget and employee cost, then check both calculations without changing the salary.
- Compare employee cost with the budget
Explain the whole position budget, the share used by staffing, and the difference between that share and employee cost.
Part 4: Plan future changes
- Start a workforce plan
Create a year-long pay-review plan and understand its automatically refreshed baseline.
- Propose a pay or staffing change
Enter a 5% salary increase, then use separate practice workforce plans to explore hiring, budget changes, and changes that belong together.
- Read and compare workforce plan results
Explain the cost of the 5% raise, compare a 3% alternative, and keep a report for later review.
- Review and apply workforce plan changes
Review the intended salary change, apply it once, and check the approved pay and calculated cost afterward.
Part 5: Manage everyday work
- Correct a request or help it move forward
Practice canceling incorrect work, resolving missing information, and choosing the appropriate reviewer or administrator action.
- Find and resolve an issue
Follow an issue to the information that needs correcting, check the result, and distinguish a fix from a planned later review.
- Build a useful dashboard
Create a practice dashboard, choose useful staffing measures, and trace its numbers back to positions and dates.
- Choose a report and check its results
Run a report for the course position, compare its amounts with the records, then practice reports for your responsibilities.
- Import records and check what changed
Prepare a small practice file, correct a validation error, apply the intended change, and learn the separate Create and Update recipes.
- Manage your account and get help
Review personal settings and notifications, understand account recovery, and prepare a clear support request when you need help.
Part 6: Set up and administer an organization
- Prepare an organization for your team
Set up an empty practice organization before learners create their first position.
- Set up departments and workforce choices
Create the department, job code, schedule, choices, and financial setup used in the Evergreen Health practice.
- Set position and assignment rules
Configure position identifiers and assignment rules, then compare an allowed full-time assignment with a blocked overlap.
- Set up approvals and required documents
Set up a few approval steps, assign eligible reviewers, and test the information required for a position request.
- Give people the right access
Invite test users, assign focused roles and department coverage, and plan company sign-in safely when it is available.
- Review billing, history, and retention
Practice reviewing organization administration without making a payment, cancellation, or deletion request.
- Work with an enabled HR-system connection
Review how employee information is maintained, what a successful connection requires, and how to handle a change in who manages pay.
Advanced practice: Explain more complex costs
- Calculate costs for work arrangements
Work through half-time, hourly, contracted, and multiple-assignment examples, with the starting amount and each calculation explained.
- Understand adjustments that apply together
Compare benefits and allowances in different calculation orders, then practice repeated rules, budget priority, replacement, and suppression.
- Workforce plan changes during the year
Calculate the part-year cost of a July raise, a temporary allowance, a later hire, and a staffing assumption using clear dates.
- Explain a financial result that looks wrong
Find the date, rate, assignment, adjustment, or missing input behind a result, and explain small rounding differences before asking for help.
