Fix workforce plan results
Find why a workforce plan is still calculating, missing information, or unable to apply a proposed change.

If a workforce plan is still calculating, missing an amount, or showing an unexpected number, start with its status and selected dates. Active workforce plans update when approved records change. Recorded reviews, applications, and reports keep the information used when they were calculated.
Before you begin
Viewing a workforce plan requires the View plans permission for its included departments. Budget and compensation results require their own viewing permissions. Correcting proposals requires the relevant management permissions. Direct application also requires permission to apply plan changes and authority for every selected change.
Check the result status
While Results updating is shown, the last complete baseline and outcome stay visible. Check their calculation time and effective dates. Wait for Current before relying on the latest changes, applying them, or preparing a separate position approval request. Excluded from results means a proposal needs a decision and is left out of the planned outcome. Other usable proposals continue calculating against current approved information. Not available means required information is missing; it is not a zero amount.
Updates retry automatically after an interruption. Earlier complete results stay visible while the latest changes are calculated. Already applied changes remain saved; do not enter them again.
Review an excluded change
Choose Review excluded changes above the results, or open Changes and filter to Needs attention. Amber rows identify excluded items and explain what needs review. Open the item and compare its original information, current approved information, dates, and proposed value. Edit it to record your decision or remove it from the plan. The calculation updates automatically after saving.
If the explanation says a required change is excluded, review that related change first. Parts of one combined item stay together. You can continue reviewing and applying independent items while these changes remain excluded.
An exclusion notice describes the displayed calculation. While results update, the earlier comparison and its own exclusions remain visible until the new comparison is ready. Saved reports and recorded reviews keep their original information.
Check dates and approved information
The Overview tab shows one issue notice below its calculation status. For a single issue, choose View issue. When several issues affect the displayed results, the notice shows how many need action, await verification, or are scheduled for review. Choose View all issues to open the Issues list filtered to this plan and its displayed results. Issues needing action appear first; you can change the status or sort the list. You can also choose Issues in the plan navigation; its count includes outstanding issues you can view. Choose Overview to return to the plan. Opening an issue preserves the filtered list for your return. Clear removes extra filters while keeping this plan and its displayed results.
Missing-information warnings remain amber when review is scheduled or verification is pending, because the results are still incomplete. Individual changes and selection review show notices only for affected positions in those changes. Problems elsewhere in the plan remain available under Issues. While results are updating, earlier complete results stay visible. You can leave the page and return later.
For a missing-information issue, open View issue. What is wrong identifies the missing input and its dates. Use the correction button to open the affected budget rate, employee assignment pay, or setup field. If you cannot make that correction, the issue explains which management access is needed.
After saving the correction, return to Overview and wait for the automatic baseline and outcome refresh. The issue is checked again against the updated information. Review any affected proposals. Check the calculation identified by the issue before comparing it with the latest plan results.
Confirm the workforce plan’s start and through dates and each proposal’s effective date. Rate, pay, and position-field values have no end date. A later official effective value replaces the earlier value. If proposals give different values to the same record on the same date, review and resolve the conflict before continuing. Assignments and applied adjustments can have an end date, which is the first excluded day. Approved information can include changes scheduled for future dates.
If you have not used a workforce plan for some time, opening it requests an update. Its previous completed results may remain visible while this runs. Recorded reviews and completed reports keep their earlier figures.
Check the measure
Monthly cost covers the actual days included in that month. Position and dashboard amounts show what a year would cost using the information for the selected date. Ending FTE shows the staffing amount on the last included day. Compare the same kind of amount: the full-position budget, the staffed part’s budget, and employee compensation answer different questions.
A negative Change can mean the proposal costs less. The final pay rate, cost, and FTE cannot fall below zero; the result explains when a reduction reaches that limit.
Check review and application
Open View review or View application on the relevant change and follow its linked position request. All changes in a selection are applied together, or none are. Other independent selections may still be waiting to be applied.
If official information changed during preparation, open Overview and inspect the message identifying work that needs review. Official values already match means that change adds no further effect. If the intended effect or affected requests changed, cancel the unfinished application and review the current selection again. A separately submitted ordinary position request keeps its own files and review requirements; it does not authorize the plan application.
For stopped work, use the retry action for that specific preparation, application, or calculation. Canceling remaining work preserves already applied changes. Reversing an applied change requires a separate approved correction.
Another manager with the required permissions can continue stopped work and record why. If a copy, baseline update, or change to several proposals stops, finish that operation before editing again. Use the recovery action beside the status on Overview.
Get more help
Include the workforce plan name, selected dates, affected position, displayed status and the step you were trying to complete. Include whether the selection already shows Applied. Share compensation details only with people authorized to view them.
Optional practice: find why the raise is not in the result
Use prepared practice records for this exercise. Follow its setup instructions before making changes.
- Open 2027 pay review and check its status.
- Open Avery’s proposal and check $63,000 annual salary from January 1, 2027.
- Check that it names Avery’s actual assignment.
- Check the existing 20% benefits estimate.
- Wait for Current, then compare the yearly compensation amounts.
You should see $72,000 before and $75,600 after, a $3,600 increase.
If pay or an adjustment is missing, correct that item rather than changing the position budget. If the selection already says Applied, inspect Avery’s saved pay before retrying any action. Keep the original example and use a separate copy when practicing missing-pay problems.
