Compare, save, and organize forecasts
Compare forecasts, save named results for a decision, copy an option to explore it, and archive forecasts you have finished with.

Use separate forecasts to explore alternatives, such as hiring in July or October. Save named results within a forecast when you want to preserve a meeting or decision for later comparison.
Before you begin
You need the View workforce forecasts permission for the information you compare, plus the relevant financial viewing permissions. Saving results, copying, and archiving require the Manage workforce forecasts permission.
Compare alternatives
- Open Compare in a forecast.
- In Compare with, choose another forecast with the same Start and Through dates.
- Select Compare and check the name above each column. Change is the second amount minus the first.
The selected comparison is saved for everyone viewing the forecast. If it becomes unavailable or its dates no longer match, choose another. To compare just one date, use a date comparison report and choose a date included in both forecasts.
Check the starting information as well as the proposals. Different starting information can explain part of a difference. Wait for both forecasts to finish calculating before using the latest results for a decision.
Save a checkpoint
A checkpoint is a named set of proposals and calculated results, kept as they were when you saved them. Later edits and applied changes do not change it.
- Wait for the forecast to finish calculating.
- Open Checkpoints and choose Actions, then Save checkpoint.
- Enter a name, such as “Before hiring review,” and explain why you are saving it.
- Save.
Saving results does not approve or apply proposals.
Compare saved results
Choose two checkpoints from the same forecast. Their names appear above the columns. The differences use the displayed amounts. FTE shows the balance at the end of each month; do not add it across months.
Open the linked version to inspect its proposals. Your current department and financial permissions determine what you can see. Revisions also lets you review earlier versions; approvals apply to the version that was reviewed.
Use Forecast reports to download a comparison for sharing.
Copy a forecast
Choose Actions, then Copy plan. Give the copy a clear name and explain why you are creating it. It starts with the same approved information and proposals, and needs its own review and approval. To inspect changes already applied from the original, open the original forecast.
Wait for preparation and calculation to finish. If preparation stops, follow the progress link to the original forecast and finish or retry the copy. You can edit the new forecast once preparation is complete.
Archive a forecast
Open Actions and choose the archive action when you have finished with a forecast. Use the Active and Archived tabs on the Forecasts list to find it later.
Archived forecasts retain their proposals, saved results, approvals, and applied-change history while your organization is kept in FTE Tree. You cannot edit them or apply more changes. Reports have separate expiry dates; an expired report does not remove the forecast’s saved results.
Archiving or cancelling does not undo applied changes. Correct an applied change through a new proposal or the relevant position, staffing, budget, or compensation page.
