Overview

FTE Tree runs in a web browser, so you can create an account and get started without installing or purchasing additional software.

FTE Tree is committed to providing reliable and secure software. Your data is protected with encryption in transit and at rest, and our cloud hosting is designed for redundancy and scalability.

Each organization in FTE Tree has its own dedicated FTE Tree address, helping keep accounts clearly separated. All communication is encrypted over HTTPS. For more details on how your organization's data is protected, see Organization overview and Authentication and security.

Browser requirements

To use FTE Tree, you need only a web browser. For best security and user experience, use a current version of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, or Opera. Keep automatic browser updates enabled where possible.

User interactions, such as approving a position request, can be completed on a mobile device. A desktop or laptop is recommended for setup, imports, reporting, and larger tables.

FTE Tree requires:

  • HTTPS access to FTE Tree.
  • Cookies for sign-in and organization session security.
  • JavaScript for interactive pages, forms, tables, approvals, search, and reports.
  • Pop-up or new-window permissions when opening the secure billing portal or downloading certain files.

Devices and screen size

FTE Tree is responsive and supports phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. Use the device that fits the task:

  • Mobile phone: quick approvals, comments, messages, profile changes, and status checks.
  • Tablet: light review, approvals, and dashboard use.
  • Desktop or laptop: imports, exports, report review, setup changes, department review, and large table work.

For long forms, large exports, and detailed comparison work, a keyboard, pointer, and wider screen reduce errors.

Email and notification requirements

Your organization should allow FTE Tree email so users can receive invitations, sign-in codes, MFA recovery notices, approval reminders, comment emails, billing notices, and support messages.

If users do not receive email, check spam, quarantine, allow-list rules, domain restrictions, and whether the user's email address is verified and active.

File downloads and uploads

Imports, exports, attachments, reports, invoices, and Activity history exports use ordinary browser file upload and download behavior. Some organizations restrict file downloads through browser, device, or network policy. Ask your IT administrator to allow needed downloads for authorized users.

Uploaded files should be business-related and should not include unnecessary sensitive information. FTE Tree checks uploaded files for safety before making them available to reviewers.

Network and security settings

FTE Tree works over standard HTTPS connections. Corporate networks should allow secure access to FTE Tree pages, authentication providers your organization uses, and email links sent by FTE Tree.

If your organization requires Google, Microsoft, or enterprise SSO, users must also be able to reach that identity provider. If MFA is required, users need access to their authenticator method or recovery codes.

Accessibility and browser preferences

FTE Tree uses standard browser controls where practical. Users can use browser zoom, password managers, saved credentials, and accessibility tools supported by their browser and device.

If a page becomes difficult to use after browser zoom, device scaling, or translation settings are changed, return to the default zoom level and try again on a wider screen for setup-heavy work.

Case sensitivity

With the few important exceptions noted below, FTE Tree is case-sensitive. This means that upper and lower case versions of the same letter or word are considered different. Across FTE Tree, unique names are enforced for elements such as departments in your department tree. For example, "administration" and "Administration" are treated as two different departments.

There are two places where case-insensitivity is enforced:

  • Email addresses: Email systems are generally case-insensitive, so FTE Tree treats email addresses as case-insensitive to protect the integrity of your account.

  • Usernames: Although your active email address is used as a username, there may be instances where FTE Tree generates a username. Case-insensitivity is enforced on usernames for similar account protection reasons.
